TESTIMONIALS

Who made your Dream Pen?

Dream Pen - 夢万年筆

A cigar-shaped fountain pen with ebonite material as the base to conver the true values of Japanese traditional arts. With a great fountain pen, you can write many beautiful things and amazing ideas. And from there, many good things are believed to come.

We hope that with our Dream Pen, many dreams will be written about and become true.

True Urushi

Urushi lacquer is applied with a brush to an object by the hand of a traditional craftsman. After the careful application of many layers of Urushi and ornamentation, Urushi brings great protection for the art piece as it makes the object able to withstand erosion from water, acids, alcohol, and changes in weather conditions.

Each creation of the Urushi art piece requires a lot of time and skills. And you can feel the dedication of an artisan when you touch and feel the quality of the final product.

Making Process

Every single pen is painted by the hands of Japanese craftsmen in Wajima.

The creation of an Urushi fountain pen takes a least 3 months or even longer to make sure the final piece of art is at its most beautiful finish.

Pen is great, after repair service is terrible

"I'm in love with my urushi pen and the custom ground nib. It honestly writes like a dream... except I scratched the urushi and was in need of a repair. I was quoted a very fair price for the repair and the company offered to arrange to have a courier pick it up for me. Awesome! ... Instead, I ended up going back and forth with the customer service team for nearly 3 months, trying to make arrangements to have the pen sent in for that simple repair. I would agree to a time for a courier to come only to be told that the courier wasn't actually available, or they needed more lead time, or the times I was given to pick from were incorrect, or they were only available when I wasn't, etc. etc. I finally was able to set something up amidst the moving goal posts only to find out that they didn't actually book the pickup with the courier, so I was left waiting around for nothing. We tried again but this time the courier and I weren't provided with the correct paperwork in time for the shipment, and so subsequently it was rescheduled to a time when I wasn't available without my consent (and I was to be billed for the shipping). At that point, I cancelled the repair because, with the amount of errors I encountered, I was worried something would go wrong with the shipment and I wouldn't actually get the pen back. The pen itself is fantastic - I marvel at it every time I write with it... I just wish I could marvel at it without the scratch that I couldn't get repaired for 3 months. I was left feeling like the company was happy to accept my money for the pen, but once the transaction was complete, they also didn't seem too bothered by how difficult it was to arrange for a simple touch up. This left a very sour taste in my mouth. I want so bad to be able to support this company (I love the creative direction they take and the products they offer), but until this gets sorted out, I'm afraid I can't endorse them."

Unwritable

"The pen is unusable if written before, No ink flow, and the nib tear the paper. $600 for a pen that doesn’t write. Please respond…2nd time."

My first urushi pen

"and probably not my last. It really must be seen in person and felt in the hand to appreciate the material. The aka-tamenuri finish is wonderfully done on my pen."
