Notice: Each Urushi fountain pen is handcrafted with no two pieces exactly alike, which is a valuable characteristic of hand-crafted art. Therefore, the pen that you received might be slightly different from the prototype pictures, yet, at the same time, it will be a unique artwork of your own
Akebono-nuri (曙塗り) is an Urushi technique that creates a duo-toned finish with a combination of Red and Black Urushi. Being considered as one of the most difficult techniques, Akebono-nuri involves a complicated process of Urushi coating.
On top of Red Urushi undercoat, Black Urushi is applied and polished until the Red Urushi is revealed. As this process is repeated, the underlying Red Urushi will become glossier and a beautifully gradient design will be achieved.

"Very happy thank you"

"I love the presentation and the quality of the pen. My only reservation is that after only a couple of days of use I'm getting lots of hard starts and flow issues. Regrettably, the 18k nib doesn't seem as reliable as the Jowo nib on my Zogan Momiji which is flawless. It is a touch disappointing given the extra cost of this Aizu Urushi. Perhaps it is just breaking in, or perhaps it's just my paper choice, or perhaps the feed. I guess time will tell. I do love the finish, but not so much the writing experience at this point."
