Description
Important Notice: The Bokashi-nuri art combines multiple lacquer layers to create a smooth transitioning between colors. With each lacquer being applied by hands, traces of the process such as tiny dots or slightly asymmetrical thickness can be seen in the final finish. Known as wabi-sabi - an aesthetic aspect of Japanese hand-crafted art, this characteristic makes each Bokashi pen a unique work of art, with no two pieces exactly the same.
Oboro (朧)
The Oboro Fountain Pen has a deep matte blue color until it inexplicably transforms into a light green color near the bottom of the pen. This represents the feeling of embracing the unknown, as if we are walking a forest with only an ocean of a night sky hanging above us, and the barest glimpses of green grass beneath our footsteps.
In this suspended moment of ambiguity, we can enjoy the beauty of the Bokashi-nuri - Oboro Fountain Pen, and welcome the untold wonders we can achieve with it in our collection.
Aizu Urushi
Aizu Urushi is one of the oldest and most respected lacquer arts in Japan. For over a thousand years, Master Artisans have created masterpieces in Japan's remote Aizu region - almost all of which are impossible to replicate.
Bokashi-nuri
For painters, creating a gradient, or a gradation, is difficult, because a smooth transition from one shade to another (i.e. light blue to dark blue) can be easily disturbed by an incorrect mixture of paint, or an accidental twitch of a finger. This is even more difficult when it comes to using Urushi (raw lacquer), because the texture and coloration of lacquer is far less predictable than modern paint.
Additionally, the Urushi changes colors and brightness during the maturation process, which means that the Bokashi (gradient) may mature into a completely different pattern than it was originally. In this case, the Master Artisan will be forced to start everything from the very beginning. Since each piece is applied by hand, no two gradations are exactly the same, and every piece displays its own unique character and expression.
