About Dream Pen Aizu Urushi
As you might have known from our Sekai collection, Aizu Urushi is one of the oldest and most famous lacquerware in Japan. Originated from Aizu - a region of heavy snowfalls, Aizu Urushi has a history of over 9000 years.
About Ao
For centuries, Aizu Urushi has been at the forefront of Urushi masterpieces like their unique Tamamushi-nuri technique which uses silver powder that has been polished so thoroughly until it is not noticeable by touch or sight. However, as is often the case with many things, there is beauty in classic, simple elegance, which is what led to the crafting of the Aizu Urushi - Ao. This deep blue fountain pen is coated with the Master Artisan's own unique mixture of Urushi (Japanese lacquer) to achieve a one-of-a-kind blue that seems to absorb light at first glance.
With each look, the depth of beauty becomes ever clearer, and it is perhaps a perfect example of the difference between paint and Urushi. While paint may be easier to create and to use, lacquer can not only achieve the same colors, but it can also create depth in a way that paint could only aspire for. The Aizu Urushi - Ao is inspired by the simple beauty in the world around us, and the hidden depths that we can find if we look just a little closer.
