Valentine’s Day, the Japanese Way

In Japanese culture, Valentine's Day is not only celebrated differently than most Western countries, but it is even separated into two different months! On February 14, it is tradition for Japanese women to give chocolates and other presents to their significant other, and there is no pressure for their significant other to reciprocate... on that day! The reason is because exactly one month later on March 14, it is White Day in Japan.

On this day, Japanese men can finally reciprocate, and present their gifts to their partners. This is among one of the myriad of unique cultural aspects of Japan, and it is part of what makes immersion into Japanese culture such a fun and refreshing experience.
