Terasaki - a leather pen case that can comfortably hold and protect three of your most treasured pens. The name is inspired by the Javanese word for Teras (essence) and the Japanese word Saki (future or ahead), which represents the combination of the rich legacy of Javanese leather and the bright future we aim to achieve.

Since the paleolithic period, indigenous people from all around the world have developed their own unique leather processing techniques. Although we plan on exploring the traditional leather crafting processes of other cultures, our interest was first captured by the history of leather craftsmanship in Indonesia - specifically, the history of Javanese leather. 

When Wancher Founder, Taizo Okagaki, happened to hold a Javanese leather passport case, he decided to conduct further research because he was enraptured by the soft and comfortable texture of the material. 

While the history of Javanese leather is long and treasured, it has retained its reputation for high quality, bespoke craftsmanship in the 21st Century because the master leather craftsmen have continued to innovate. Although the exact process is kept secret, Javanese leather craftsmen combine ancient techniques with modern advancements to ensure that the durability of the item will be maintained for even longer than the leatherworks of centuries past. 

We decided that the philosophy of Javanese leather craftsmanship, which simultaneously raises awareness of their traditional crafts and uses modern innovations, conformed with Wancher’s own commitment to traditional arts. The pen case is crafted from high-quality Javanese cowhide, which was conducive to maintaining durability without sacrificing a soft, luxurious texture. It is considered by many to be the equivalent of luxury Italian leather. 

Since the craftsmen have done their best to preserve the original techniques, the leather tanning process is significantly more environmentally sustainable than the current methods utilized by mass production factories in other countries. This means that the cost to produce even a single Terasaki Leather Pen Case may be much higher than a dozen mass-produced pleather (fake leather) cases, yet its origins and heightened quality make it worth even more.

When you hold a Javanese leather product in your hand, it is immediately clear that it has been handcrafted with the utmost care with the intention of maintaining its pristine quality for as long as possible.
