Description

Design Concept – A fountain pen with Japanese taste

As you see, hold, touch and write with the pen, you can feel exceptional Japanese cultural concept (Wa 和 in Japanese) on JAPAN BLUE and JAPAN RED fountain pen. Our wish is you can really hold the pen on your hand, touch the body and experience the amazing balance of the pen.

The concept of JAPAN fountain pen was designed by group of companies in Oita, Japan, including Oita Made, Nagao Seisakujo and Wancher Inc. Oita is also hometown of Wancher inc.

From the design, the color shade to the material, the technique used to produce the pen, they all depict true Japanese taste. Japanese tradtional color (purplish blue and purple red) are chosen, then created by using true Japanese traditional material – natural indigo (天然藍) and natural Purple Red (紫鉱).

Following that, Japanese traditional hammering technique (Tankin 鍛金 in Japanese) which was used to create the traditional Samurai’s sword guard (Tsuba 鍔 in Japanese) is applied to create the body of JAPAN BLUE and JAPAN RED fountain pen.

Natural color and material – the 1st time in Japan

The special Japanese traditional colors you see on JAPAN BLUE and JAPAN RED fountain pen is created by a traditional technique which is much more complicated than normal method such as pigment dye.

For JAPAN BLUE, indigo trees have red flower buds, we must immediately harvest them and use them as material to anodize Aluminum. With this technique, the color of the body of JAPAN BLUE fountain pen gets very tough and will not change over time as other material. This is the first time a fountain pen is made with this technique in Japan.

For JAPAN RED, Purple Red is a traditional dye that is much loved throughout Japan's history. In fact, until now, you can still observe this shade in textiles, preserved in heritage sites such as Horyuji Temple or The Shosoin Repository - The Imperial Household Agency.

The body color changes depending on the degree of light.

Technique from Hammering Samurai’s sword guard

JAPAN BLUE fountain pen is inspired by Japanese traditional Samurai’s sword guard (Tsuba 鍔 in Japanese).

In Edo spirit, sword guards were always decorated with high class traditional arts or techniques such as Urushi, Maki-e…

Among all the arts, one technique is Japanese traditional hammering technique (Tankin 鍛金 in Japanese). This technique is applied to create the fascinating and unique texture on the surface of the body of JAPAN BLUE fountain pen.

Hold the pen in your hand, you can feel Japanese history.

Stunning

"I wanted this pen for several years and finally decided to pull the trigger. Jilliano provided great communications and despite the war in the middle east severely disrupting logistics my Japan Blue arrived 1 month after ordering. It was worth the wait, the pen, packaging etc. are all first class and you don't appreciate the workmanship and color until you have it in you hand. ."

Craftsmanship

"I own primarily Sailor pens and they tend to only change the color of the pen over the years so this Wancher collaboration seemed like a chance to have a unique Sailor in my collection. The hammered metal is beautifully crafted and adds the perfect heft to the pen so it feels substantial without being heavy or awkward to use. My assumption is that Wancher also tuned the nib as it’s one of the smoothest Fine nibs I’ve had the chance to use. If you’re a Sailor pen enthusiast I believe you’ll find this collaboration a familiar Sailor with a unique twist that is bound to bring compliments and questions from friends to your one-of-a-kind pen."
