Why We Built a New Nib

At Wancher, we believe the nib is more than the writing point of a fountain pen. After all, what is a fountain pen without a good nib to match?

We're no strangers to specialty nibs, from the celebrated Keiryu and Keiryu Kodachi grinds by nib shaper Mr. Yukio Nagahara, to a rainbow of colored Jowo nibs from amethyst purple to midnight blue. The one thing we couldn't promise, though, was stock. In choosing quality over quantity, there simply weren't always enough nibs to go around.

That shortage became the spark. We set out to create a new #6 nib — one made in-house, interchangeable with Jowo #6, and dependable enough to keep every collector writing. With reviews now in from David Parker (Figboot on Pens), Blake's Broadcast, Lori Tata, StilOrso and more, it felt like the right time to tell you what this nib really means.

A New #6 Nib for Your Wancher Pen

The new #6 Two Tone Steel Nib pairs classic fountain pen aesthetics with the versatility you expect from a modern Wancher instrument. The finish is mostly silver, but at its heart sits the Wancher sun logo, struck in warm gold — a small spark of color that catches the light every time you write.

The #6 format makes this nib a natural fit for many of Wancher's larger models — giving you the freedom to personalize not just how your pen looks, but how it feels in your hand every time you write. It's fully compatible with the entire Dream Pen collection, the entire Sekai World Tree collection, the Olympus Titan, and more.

Beak Nib

The Beak Nib takes its writing character from the shape and behavior of a bird's beak. Its specialized tipping and geometry create a feel that's noticeably different from a conventional round nib — a great pick for writers who want something more expressive and individual from their fountain pen.

Here's the fun part: because of its beak-like shape, you can actually write with the nib turned upside down. It's not the go-to position for most people, but having the option never hurts. The Beak Nib isn't meant to be as intuitive as the standard Fine or Medium Two Tone Nib — and it doesn't have to be. It's there for when you're feeling a little quirky, or ready to challenge yourself with a new way to write.

Needlepoint Nib

For writers who value precision above all, the Needlepoint Nib is built to lay down an exceptionally fine line. It's especially appealing if you write small, take detailed notes, or simply enjoy intricate linework — and that narrow line means more words fit comfortably on every page.

Like the Beak Nib, this is entirely handmade by Mr. Yukio Nagahara, using the Two Tone Steel Nib as its foundation.

Kodachi F Nib

Longtime Wancher collectors will recognize Mr. Nagahara's patented Kodachi grind — a unique writing feel that still keeps the practical line width of a Fine nib. The Kodachi F typically delivers a satisfying tactile sensation while the ink flows generously, so you never have to worry about tearing or scratchiness.

For writers who want something more specialized than a standard Fine nib, without stepping all the way into broad or highly flexible territory, the Kodachi F is a compelling middleground.
