Wancher Collaboration

Dream Barcelona Fountain Pen

The Dream Barcelona collection is a Wancher collaboration with Estilográficas Viena, our trusted store in Barcelona that has been providing writing instruments in the city center for 95 years. The collection draws inspiration from this unique fusion between the Spanish and Japanese cultures.

Project and its purpose

Our collaboration aimed to combine traditional Japanese values of beauty with the art of creating fountain pens by using techniques like Urushi and Maki-e, and to highlight the beloved city of Barcelona. This project brought together the experience of three generations of Estilográficas Viena, a store that specializes in selling writing instruments, particularly collectible fountain pens.

Wancher and Mr. Hector Garcia from Estilográficas Viena were the key creators of this project, working together to bring their idea to life.

DESIGN and meaning

We have created a new work of art from the Wancher Dream True Urushi Black fountain pen. This pen features "El Panot de Flor" or the Rose of Barcelona, a cherished symbol found on the street tiles throughout the city.

This pen features "El Panot de Flor" or the Rose of Barcelona, a cherished symbol found on the street tiles throughout the city. The Rose of Barcelona was a significant addition to the city in the early 1920s, as it was used to improve the pavement and provide stability to the otherwise sandy and muddy streets.

The word "Barcelona" is written in Japanese on the lower part of the fountain pen to symbolize the fusion and harmony of Japanese and Spanish cultures.

The fountain pen is decorated with gold dust and flakes by applying the Maki-e technique. These decorations represent the "contraola," a phenomenon in which the undertow of the Mediterranean Sea carries waves to the shore and creates a wave in the opposite direction. The pen captures the beauty of this effect with its golden accents.

The nibs of the pen are personalized with the name "Viena" engraved on them.

This collection of pens is limited to only 10 pieces in the world. Each pen has a unique serial number,
which makes it even more special.
