Taiyo (The Sun) is the first edition of Meraki collection crafted by master Yamanoshita using Togidashi technique.

Witnessing the movement of the world while traveling as a peddler, the artisan himself took those changes as an inspiration and incorporated them into the design of his artwork.

In these editions, Sunlight and Moonlight are the inspiring motif.

The modern world is sometimes overwhelmed with the advancing industrialization and urbanization, and we might begin to lose our connection with nature. The artisan created this design with the hope of reminding people about how important nature is. Designs on these Dream Pens are as the symbol of the positive and natural energy of nature that can illuminate your life.

This is a very distinctive design that embodies the cultures and values of Wajima lacquerware. It seems to radiate the ancient natural energy to awaken our love for nature and for the beautiful charm that might be hidden in everyday life.

About Togidashi Technique

Using the traditional 研ぎ出し - Togidashi (burnished-raised) technique, the artisan created this design through a long process of Urushi coating, sharpening, and polishing. In this technique, first, a natural Urushi base is painted and left to dry. After that, other multiple coats of color Urushi are applied.

Then the Roiro Urushi (black lacquer) is painted and left to dry. The surface is then burnished with charcoal until the design is revealed and followed by many layers of Suki Urushi (transparent Urushi). Finally, a polishing step is repeated many times until a shiny and glossy finish is achieved.
